Once again, Joao graces Blur. with a new editorial series, Feminine Masculinity, exploring gender-bending fashion and a masculine take on feminine styling. Written, shot and styled by Rae on Minolta Dynax 500si 35mm 400. Modelled by Joao Camacho, with clothing from Rae's personal collection.
Shot by Rae.
Feminine Masculinity uses styling and set design to combine and mimic the aesthetic of 1990s high-fashion models, the New Romantics fashion era and aspects of queer, drag and the ballroom community culture. The series aims to explore gender expression, experimentation and fluidity in fashion, heavily inspired by vintage glamour and the subcultures within the queer high-fashion scene pre-2000s, particularly in relation to more masculine physiques in clothes heavily associated with period fashion and femininity, as well as new age high-fashion and trend. Joao's ease, confidence and interest with navigating gender identity through fashion making him the perfect subject to execute the feminine-masculine vision, appearing equal parts stunning and charming.
