Nanna makes her debut on Blur. with a photo series called "Nanna Up Road", showing partly styled, partly candid Sandra Ashton in and around her home. Written, shot and styled by Rae on Minolta Dynax 500si 35mm 400. Modelled by Sandra Ashton, with clothing from her wardrobe, as well as cardigan from my personal thrifted collection, glasses up cycled myself and necklace from Paloma Wool.

Shot by Rae.

Detailed within the title, "Nanna Up Road" is a series dedicated to my Doncaster-born Nanna currently residing on the South Coast. Within a single parent household Nanna was like a second parent, and with the time spent apart throughout lockdowns, we felt it would be great to make beautiful imagery and spend time together all at the same time this past Easter Sunday. My Nanna encompasses some of my favourite parts of British culture, and it would be rude to not to finish with one of our weekly roast dinners.

Heavily inspired by Tim Walker's "A Granny Alphabet", I was very eager to capture my Nanna in her day-to-day life, but as lockdown restrictions were continued we ended up confined to her home. I see that age diversity is rarely sought after in fashion, however, I find OAPs to make for some of the most interesting and editorial subjects, particularly considering my how my style intertwines with the older generations. Being drawn to sustainable re-commerce and charity shopping is what has helped form my more 1970s 'nan aesthetic', and a recent bonding subject between me and my Nanna, which made the shoot much more fun and authentic when styling. Considering also the current trends of nostalgia and escapism, it was nice to see how our shared interests and styles worked together, as current fashion trend now imitates that of my Nanna's youth.
