The iconic duo, Joao and Poppy, pose for project "Our Normal" within a local estate in South East England. Written, shot and styled by Rae on Minolta Dynax 500si 35mm 400. Modelled by Joao Camacho and Poppy Gregson, with garments from Depop, Topshop and Dr Martens.
Shot by Rae.
"Our Normal" is based around my experiences of a working class childhood, building on the frustration of actual council estate residency, compared to the current trends surrounding the appropriation of the 'chav' aesthetic and "rahh, where's my baccy?" girls by juxtaposing the location with the high-fashion styling. While a fleeting fashion trend, it's important to remember that class and lifestyles should not be there for fashion to appropriate, or profit off of. Also using proportions inspired by Tim Walker, particularly within the Harry Styles Fine Line cover, noted also within the feminine styling where we could, as well, pick up on queer culture and the struggles of being perceived as 'different' within these communities. This is "Our Normal", and the normal of many others within Britain's working class today.
