Watch as Dan Mahadu taps into his fashion expression, photographed in a house in Bexleyheath. Wearing Urban Renewal trousers, vest by Collusion Studios, vintage leather jacket by Real Leather and Nike trainers / thrifted mesh top and jeans by Vivienne Westwood.
Written, styled and shot by Rae. Shot on a Canon SureShot 35mm 400.
Dan let go of his toxic masculinity and opted for a feminine, grunge twist on fashion expression. Using elements like the trainers, and 2020 unisex trends like the racer-neck vest to make the look more wearable and balanced. We used the flares and the puff-sleeve of the jacket to give the shoot some 1970s vibes, back when mens 1970s fashion resembled 2020 women's fashion trends. We styled his hair to resemble the long men's hair and facial hair boosted by the hippie movement in the 70s; slicking it in a low-pony helped to give a more editorial feel too and using the scene of a regular home to represent and contrast the women's norm of being a stay at home wife and mother in the 1970s nuclear household.
We love our Blur. boys, but they don't have to be made of 'snips and snails, and puppy dogs' tails' if they don't want to.
