Displaying the latest Blur. shoot "Unlucky", shot among the Fisherman's Club beach and equipment in Eastbourne. Written, shot and styled by Rae on Minolta Dynax 500si 35mm 400. Modelled by Eloise Mankerty, wearing thrifted garments with the addition of shoes by Dr Martens and dress by Urban Outfitters.

Shot by Rae.

Taking advantage of the warm weather me and Eloise headed down to the beach to shoot "Unlucky". With a bag full of green masculine and feminine outfits, we conducted a shoot which considered more gender fluid appearances and identities, and as suggested by the location and colour scheme, hammering in the concept of "unlucky" through Fisherman's culture also.

Taking inspiration from Kai Isaiah Jamal's cover for Playboy back in October, where they presented both sides of the gender spectrum through a series of images displaying Kai's appearance, the aim for "Unlucky" was built through this campaign. Wanting to highlight the struggles of adopting a gender identity within the binary, and how that is then presented, translated and perceived within our society today.

While you could argue that non-binary identities allow for the best of all worlds, with trans icons including Bimini Bon Boulash or Kai themselves gaining better commerciality and acceptance into mainstream culture now more than ever, this wasn't always the case. Coming to terms with self-love as a trans or non-binary person has never been said to be easy, and while the process may feel frustrating and "unlucky", to battle with your expected appearance and norms, we wanted this photo series to show the beauty in both sides, and all that in between.

Representing also the concept of "unlucky" through Fisherman's traditions from my hometown also, where Grimsby Fisherman would consider green an unlucky colour - giving context to the wardrobe and location of the shoot.
