How did you know you wanted to be a designer? "During my textiles GCSE I enjoyed it far more than any other subject and I knew that I wanted to work on clothes for the rest of my life. So I studied fashion as soon as I left school and here I am!"
What has been your most defining moment of influence in your journey to find your personal aesthetic? "Probably when I left school and was able to experiment with my style and self-expression through my identity. Dying my hair purple/pink, discovering the brand Lazy Oaf and starting to find a community of people who dressed in this fun kawaii aesthetic on Instagram."
What one garment or design has been your personal favourite to date? "I always tend to favour the most recent work I’ve done as I am constantly evolving and improving with everything I do. So I’d have to say the designs from my last live university project with Inditex that were designed for Zara."
What has been your biggest struggle to date in your journey in industry? "I haven’t had much exposure to the industry yet but I’d say it’s always a struggle standing out and finding your personal identity as most things have been done already. Also, the fact that unpaid internships are very common, and the fact that they’re legal still in the U.K. baffles me."
Who do you have hoped to have worked within the next 5 years? "Hmmmmmm. No one specifically comes to mind as number one but I’ll list some brands I’d love to work with. Molly Goddard, Ryan Lo, Simone Rocha, Ashish, Erdem, Matty Bovan, Lazy Oaf. And brands that maybe won’t make it in the next 5 years but are dream jobs are; Gucci, Comme Des Garçons, Chanel."
